The Local Area

The main town of Girne is a 35 minute drive, and here you can take a walk around the harbour, go on a boat trip or visit the castle.

St Hilarion, a castle built into the mountains above Girne is a further 20 minute drive from Girne and offers fantastic panoramic views of the North coast line, as well as views over the mountains toward the south. Some claim ST Hilarion is inspiration for Walt Disney’s castle and it is well worth a visit.

Along with St Hilarion, Buffavento and Kantara castle formed the islands defence from Arab pirates, and all 3 castle ruins can be visited, lot’s of up hill walking is involved.

Located 10 minutes from the apartment is Alagadi, whose beaches are homes to nesting marine turtles from May to September. Visit the beaches during the day to view the nests, arrange a trip at night to watch the turtles or help release the hatchlings into the sea.

  • Bellapais Abbey: the ruins of a beautiful abbey built in the 13th Century, set at an altitude of 220m above sea level with stunning views over Girne and the north coast, in the small traditional village of Bellapais.

  • The Corner House, a small bar/restaurant located in the centre of the village of Ozankoy, owned by brits and serving fantastic food and cocktails.
  • Esentepe Restaurant, a small, rustic traditionally Turkish restaurant. Located half way up the very steep hill into Esentepe the feel of this restaurant is like being in someone’s living room. On first entering one could be put off by how basic the restaurant is, but the food is fantastic, a real hidden gem.
  • Sea Wise Restaurant. A restaurant over looking the sea which also has a pool area and is the closest restaurant to the apartment.
  • Lords Palace; one of the few high rise hotels overlooking the port in Girne. With a roof terrace with swimming pool, restaurant and bar the views are fantastic. Regular live music nights, friendly staff and tasty cocktails can be found here.
  • Buffavento restaurant. A very traditional restaurant set high up in the mountains right next to Five fingers itself. Enjoy traditional Turkish kebabs looking out over the mountains.

  • The Karpaz peninsula, also known as ‘the pan handle’ ‘One of the most unspoiled places anywhere in the whole of the Mediterranean region, the Karpas is home to an outstanding number of birds and its northern and eastern shores have some of the most beautiful and deserted beaches in North Cyprus - in fact in the whole of the island’
